Crescent Moon Pottery is a working pottery offering an exciting, fun and creative outlet for anyone wishing to work with clay. The studio offers options by renting space, providing lessons, demonstrations for introduction to clay and one-time experience for groups looking to just have fun.
Studio Space is contracted by the month ($85). Included are wheels, tables, equipment, and firing. Clay is priced upon completion of a piece ($9/lb) which includes the price of the clay, slips, glaze(s), oxides, bisque and glaze firings.
Studio Space with Individualized Lessons ($85 month/$30 hour for lessons). Whether experienced or new to clay, this package is intended for the potter who is looking for a space to work and also wants to expand his/her knowledge in technique/glazing/chemistry. The lessons will be constructed based on the participants goals. Clay is priced upon completion of a piece ($9/lb) which includes the price of the clay, slips, glaze(s), oxides, bisque and glaze firings.
Lessons Only ($50/Hour) This package is for individual and/or group lessons (bring three friends and the cost is $175 for all 4!) Lessons are one hour and then a practice hour which is included in the price. Lessons necessitate touching of hands for guidance in throwing. Lessons are designed based on the interest, skill level and experience of the student. There is a minimum of three sessions for the potential of a takeaway (make, trim/decorate, glaze). This package can be used to have a raku or pit fire experience (see below).
Raku: Raku firing uses a low-fire method heating the ceramic piece quickly. The piece is then taken out and placed into combustible materials to cool quickly. Results are unpredictable and this attracts many to this way of working. Click here to see a YouTube video on Raku.
Pit Fire: The oldest of all firing methods, adding combustibles directly to the surface can dramatically impact the end result. Click here to see a YouTube video on pit firing.
Exploratory Experience Package ($25) This package is an hour to see if working with clay is for you. The hour is for handbuilding OR wheel work (your preference). There is no takeaway with this offering.
